We Blind Taste Six Gewurztraminer Wines
Our wine tasting group has been tasting wines since June of 2010. We meet every other month at a member’s house for the event, which includes a blind tasting of six wines and a luncheon prepared by the host.
On this occasion, Jeff selected six Gewurztraminers to blind taste. Below are the six wines, ranked by our group from highest to lowest.

Non-Vintage means the Fetzer is a blend of vintages. The idea is to keep the wine’s taste consistent from bottling to bottling. The Fetzer Gewurztraminer has been considered a good value over the years, and it’s made with sustainable practices. Viña Concha y Toro S.A., the Chilean wine company, bought the brand and winery from Brown-Forman in 2011. Prior to that, the winery was started and run by the Fetzer family, Mendocino farmers who were among the first to practice organic farming.
I think this Fetzer Gewurztraminer is impressive, mostly because it was the second-highest rated wine in our tasting as a group. Combined with its sustainable production and $7.99 price tag, it’s a smart buy for wine consumers on a budget.
We were somewhat surprised that the two Navarro wines landed at the bottom of our rankings. We often visit the Navarro winery in the Anderson Valley of Mendocino County, and their wines are also made with sustainable practices.
